Report: ChatGPT Citations of Reddit Dropped 86% After Algorithm Change
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-08-21
A report by Promptwatch indicates a cliff-like drop in Reddit's share of ChatGPT Search citations starting August 14. Previously stable at around 3.8%, the average share for August 14-17 fell to just 0.52%, an 86.4% relative decline. The shift began on August 8 when ChatGPT modified its query fanout behavior. While data collection issues cannot be ruled out, a change in ChatGPT's source selection strategy is the likely cause.
