A WSJ report highlights that GLM founder Tang Jie viewed himself as a rival to OpenAI's Sam Altman long before the US-China AI battle made headlines. When OpenAI released GPT-3 in 2020, Tang aimed to produce something of equal caliber. He wrote on his website years ago that he is dedicating all efforts to AGI with the mission of teaching machines to think like humans. The poster recalls downloading GLM-130B and comments on the lab's continued momentum.
