Self-Healing Chips: Circuits That Rewire Around Damage
zzznah · x · 2026-08-21
A new paper presented at ALIFE2026 introduces "Self-Organising Digital Circuits." Extending the Neural Cellular Automata paradigm, this architecture uses a topology-masked Transformer to configure Boolean gates directly on a computational substrate. It demonstrates the ability to self-assemble functional circuits and, crucially, to rapidly re-route logic around permanent hardware faults by exploiting degeneracies in the Boolean solution space, achieving self-healing capabilities similar to biological brains.
