Bloomberg: China-US AI gap narrows rapidly, Chinese models show cost edge
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-08-21
A Bloomberg report highlights the rapidly narrowing gap between Chinese and US AI capabilities. Data shows Kimi K3 is approaching Fable's level with about 70% lower single-task costs. While Anthropic previously estimated China was 6-12 months behind, a batch of frontier labs has now emerged in China (GLM-5.3 not even included). The report suggests the US remains ahead but maintaining high prices for frontier models is becoming increasingly difficult.
