Stripe AI boosts sales productivity 20%, leading to more hiring, not less
AccBalanced · x · 2026-08-21
Stripe's Will Gaybrick revealed that after AI made their sales team 20% more productive, the company hired more salespeople, not fewer. AI agents also helped ship global tax filing in about a third of the time it took for the US version.
This counters the assumption that AI simply replaces labor. Once agents clear low-value work and each rep can close more deals, adding another rep becomes more valuable if demand remains. Thus, higher productivity can push hiring up.
Gaybrick also predicts that the "agentic economy" will rely on microtransactions, with agents acting like "hummingbirds" navigating the web to consume small amounts of data and compute.
