Survey: 50+ AI Agents Now Automate Computational Chemistry
PavloDral · x · 2026-08-21
This Perspective paper surveys agentic systems in computational chemistry, noting a growth from a handful in 2024 to nearly 50 by 2026. The capabilities of these systems are shifting from task assistance to autonomous experiment design, execution, and analysis. The authors suggest that generalist agents may eventually replace specialized ones, as adding new capabilities becomes as simple as prompting the AI. Despite the proliferation, adoption remains limited outside of developer circles, signaling significant disruption ahead.
