Builder tackles a pure-Rust GitHub alternative using swarms of weaker AI models
doodlestein · x · 2026-08-21
Developer Dicklesworthstone has started FrankenGit: a clean-room, pure-Rust, Git-compatible code forge designed for humans and autonomous coding agents, emphasizing repairability, self-hosting, and independently verifiable recovery. The repo is currently at the pre-implementation architecture and public design review stage, with a source-available (not yet OSI) license.
The author calls it an "almost ludicrously ambitious, complex and large" project, and this time is testing a different approach: using only the weaker models (Terra and Opus), but more of them, to see how fast he can go.
