Simon Grimm, editor of Works in Progress, revealed that his hometown of Laufenburg, Switzerland (population 2,000), is constructing a data center that will ultimately reach 400 megawatts. The scale is equivalent to four gigafactories, with plans for five. Such projects are typically highly attractive, require no public funding, and rely on localized taxation strategies by wealthy individuals to profit the town.
