Rest of World interviewed six global AI observers about Mark Zuckerberg's August 10 letter "The Future for Everyone," and many pushed back on the equalizer narrative.\n\nPolicy scholar Chinasa T. Okolo (founder of Technecultura, inaugural policy lead of Black in AI) noted that AI infrastructure investment has yet to deliver tangible benefits in Africa: Kenya paused the Microsoft/G42-backed geothermal data center over grid constraints, and Nvidia-powered AI factories from Cassava AI could worsen grid stability in South Africa and Nigeria. She argues Meta has grossly overstated the economic benefits of its data centers. Other experts questioned who gets to define "everyone" and noted that access does not equal power.
