OpenAI and Anthropic shift data retention policies after Palantir's Karp backlash
AccBalanced · x · 2026-08-21
Palantir CEO Alex Karp publicly slammed OpenAI and Anthropic's data retention policies, asking "who owns the data, where is it cached, are the prompts secured?" and accusing them of trying to "drug addict us" to a future they control. Soon after, OpenAI began testing "private safety processing" to avoid retaining customer data, and Anthropic reversed course to let enterprise customers keep data on their own cloud infrastructure. Gary Marcus noted Karp "got so much shit and was actually right."
