California VC hits $366B, with OpenAI and Anthropic accounting for over half
MTSlive · x · 2026-08-21
California attracted $366 billion in VC funding this year, more than three times the combined total of the other 49 US states. OpenAI raised $122 billion and Anthropic $95 billion, together accounting for more than half of the total. New York ranked second with $27 billion. This influx led to higher-than-expected personal income tax revenue, easing the state's budget deficit. Theo Jaffee noted that with the concentration of talent and capital in SF, it is absolutely the golden age of tech and AI.
