Graph launches x402 for direct USDC payments by AI agents over HTTP
kleffew94 · x · 2026-08-20
The Graph introduced x402, a protocol that brings the dormant HTTP 402 'Payment Required' status code to life. It allows AI agents to pay per query in USDC directly via HTTP to Subgraph Gateways, eliminating the need for API keys, accounts, or sessions.
This addresses the bottleneck where millions of incoming autonomous AI agents cannot navigate blockchains or pay their own way. The solution stacks identity, awareness, and economic agency to enable real on-chain actor capabilities.
