Study: AI boosts homework scores by 20 points, but lowers exam scores by 15
TansuYegen · x · 2026-08-20
A study of 26,811 students (ages 12-18) found that while AI usage reduced homework time by 20 minutes and increased assignment scores by 20+ points, exam scores without AI assistance dropped by roughly 15 points. This suggests AI can improve output while weakening the learning process. The core question is now how to make AI a tool for learning rather than a substitute for thinking.
