I trained a 125M model to autocomplete piano on-device at ~108 notes/sec
simedw · hn · 2026-08-20
The author shared a 125M-parameter transformer that autocompletes piano performances in real time (108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). Similar to GitHub Copilot but for music, the model takes a few played notes on a MIDI piano as input and continues the melody entirely on-device. The app is free, and the author is open to discussing training, Core ML implementation, and challenges faced.
