A mountaineer fed 5 years of climbing experience into Qwen to build a trip-planning skill

Wang Shiyu, a novelist and former ad agency owner who became a full-time mountain climber, found that gear omissions—not altitude sickness—cause most climbing failures. She fed her 5-6 years of experience climbing Haba, Siguniang, Yuzhu and Nama peaks, plus training materials and mistakes, into Qwen (千问), turning it into a usable Skill: given climbing dates, personal experience and budget, it outputs a complete climbing plan with weather judgment, identifies optimal climbing windows, avoids holiday peaks and suggests beginner training plans. Her team also integrated the book Bigger Than Mountains and school teaching materials into the knowledge base, letting Qwen split into two modules — a climbing coach assistant and a beginner snow-mountain advisor. Generated gear checklists are editable and exported as MD docs shared with other guides and climbers. Her takeaway: decision-making > gear > fitness; tools don't replace human risk-taking, but help make the sanest preparations before departure.
