The author argues that in the RL era, LLM understanding is not constrained by human cognition and may involve radically different, internalized ways of thinking. Citing Terence Tao, the post suggests LLMs might access novel conceptual paths baked into their weights. Two explanations exist for such foreign reasoning: miscalibration, or calibration to the model's own reconceptualization where "intuition" comes from distant training runs rather than the current trace.
