Stripe has officially announced its acquisition of AI model routing platform OpenRouter for $7.5 billion — a steep premium over OpenRouter's $1.3B valuation just months earlier in May. Founders will receive roughly $1.5B and investors about $6B. OpenRouter has only 90 employees but serves 10M+ developers and enterprises, aggregates 400+ AI models, and processes over 10 trillion tokens daily, with inference volume growing at least 10x per year. The product name, architecture, roadmap, and mission stay unchanged, and existing API integrations require no modification.
