Moderna and Merck's AI-assisted personalized mRNA cancer treatment has succeeded in a Phase 3 trial. The therapy sequences patient tumors, uses AI to identify mutations likely to trigger an immune response, and produces individualized mRNA treatments encoding up to 34 neoantigens. In the earlier Phase 2 trial for high-risk melanoma, it reduced the risk of recurrence or death by 49% and the risk of distant metastasis or death by 59%.
