Moderna's mRNA-4157 melanoma vaccine succeeds in Phase 3, AI-designed, stock surges

Moderna and Merck announced positive results from a Phase 3 trial of the personalized cancer vaccine mRNA-4157 (V940) for melanoma, leading to a 100% surge in Moderna's stock price.
The vaccine utilizes AI to analyze a patient's tumor tissue and select approximately 20 representative antigens, which are then encoded into mRNA and injected back to train T cells to recognize these antigens and prevent post-surgery recurrence. Melanoma was chosen as the initial target due to its high sensitivity to immunotherapies like Keytruda. Experts believe that if this approach succeeds fully, it can be migrated to other common cancers, where AI's role in antigen prediction will become crucial, though current personalized costs remain high.
