Anthropic released a blog detailing Claude's significant breakthroughs in AI for Science. In protein design tasks, Claude designed 1,320 candidate proteins from scratch, with 354 successfully binding to targets, achieving a peak hit rate of 35.1%, far surpassing the industry typical 10-15%. The experiments demonstrated that Claude can autonomously orchestrate professional models and GPU resources to complete end-to-end design workflows, with some results exceeding previous human benchmarks. Additionally, Claude analyzed raw NMR and LC-MS experimental data in just 23 and 19 minutes respectively, determining sample purity with only a 0.07% difference from lab results. Anthropic noted that for safety reasons, the more advanced Fable 5 model is not yet available for these tasks to the public, with a dedicated access program for scientists in the works.
