Stanford Study: Predicting 10k-Agent Opinion Dynamics with Simple Ising Models
SuryaGanguli · x · 2026-08-20
Stanford and Google researchers introduce the "Physics of Agents" framework to study opinion dynamics in communities of 10,000 LLM agents. They demonstrate that collective agent behavior is surprisingly well-captured by a simple statistical physics model (Ising model), which minimizes an energy function representing social pressure to conform. The model accounts for consensus, polarization, and societal correction, generalizing to unseen communication networks.
