Cursor Launches Origin, a GitHub Rival for Code Hosting with Agent-Native Features
emmanuelvivier · x · 2026-08-20
Cursor has launched Origin, its own code hosting platform, rolling out in early beta on all paid plans as a direct rival to GitHub. The initial essentials are designed for agent scale: repos, pull requests, code browsing, and GitHub sync, with agent-native features shipping soon.
- Origin repos: A new Codebase tab lets you create repos and push local projects via a dedicated CLI.
- GitHub sync: Connect your org, pick repos to sync in real time; GitHub remains the source of truth, with PR comments syncing both ways.
- Pull requests: Full timeline, diffs, comments, and merges — GitHub-assigned reviews can be handled inside Cursor.
- Agents everywhere: Code, PRs, and agents in one place — Cursor can answer questions, make changes, update PRs, or push branches.
