Google buys Spirit Airlines' entire employee dataset at auction, freaking out flight attendants

Google won an auction last Friday for a huge trove of Spirit Airlines data. It contains no customer personal data, but covers nearly the airline's entire employment and workplace records. Google agreed to a court-appointed ombudsman overseeing PII stripping before transfer, pledged to keep the data de-identified and never intentionally re-identify it; any third parties granted access would be bound by the same terms. Flight attendants remain uneasy about the deal.
