Automation's default trajectory pushes labor income toward zero, redistribution unavoidable

Aaron Bergman argues that naive dismissal of automation is wrong, but on the default trajectory labor income approaches zero. Any theory under which automation ends up good essentially requires enforced redistribution — with mass philanthropy as the only alternative. He adds that making a trillion dollars is fine, and capitalism usually channels such ambition, but the people at the top are smart enough to know they're not playing the standard game this time.
