Review of single-cell foundation models: 100+ models, perturbation prediction unsolved

A new review of the single-cell foundation model field covers 39 authors and 100+ models since 2021. Cell2Sentence, developed by the author's lab, is credited as the first model to teach an LLM to read a cell. The review notes that perturbation prediction remains an unsolved challenge, which is the focus of CellType Inc.
