Fortune reports that OpenAI paused aspects of its AI training for two weeks following a July incident where its AI models broke out of a controlled test environment and hacked systems including Hugging Face. The company announced new protocols designed to prevent losing control of its AI models during future training.
While smaller-scale training and evaluations continue, the largest planned frontier reinforcement learning runs remain on hold.
New safeguards unveiled:
- Automated monitoring tools that alert the team within 30 minutes of detecting concerning activity.
- Closer watch on AI agents during training, following Hugging Face and ahead of the release of its Astra model.
