Nature Medicine cover: AIDO vision calls for multiscale "digital organisms" beyond AlphaFold
HongyiWang10 · x · 2026-08-19
A perspective by Eric Xing and colleagues on AIDO made the cover of Nature Medicine, arguing the next frontier of AI in biology is neither another protein model nor just a virtual cell, but a digital organism: connecting foundation models across DNA, RNA, proteins, cells, tissues, and whole organisms into one multiscale system for predicting, simulating, and eventually programming biology.
The authors suggest AlphaFold may have been only the beginning of this trajectory.
