AI chip startup Etched raises $700M at $21B valuation to challenge Nvidia in inference

AI chip startup Etched has raised $700 million in a new funding round, reaching a $21 billion valuation. Notably, its valuation was $10.3 billion in July, doubling in less than a month.
Etched is developing specialized AI inference hardware designed to make running AI models faster and more cost-efficient. The round was led by Jane Street, with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, and Tiger Global.
Etched claims to have over $1 billion in customer contracts. The post raises the question: Can specialized inference chips seriously challenge Nvidia's dominance, or will GPUs remain the default?
