Zhipu adds layered risk review to GLM-5.3, acting on AI safety without government push
pstAsiatech · x · 2026-08-19
Zhipu pledged stricter oversight for GLM-5.3 via a layered risk-review system that blocks high-risk requests while leaving routine low-risk developer tasks untouched. The author notes this mirrors Anthropic's handling of Mythos, except the US case involved significant government intervention while Zhipu appears to be acting on its own.
In its statement, Zhipu said "When the strongest spear is locked in the hands of a few, the best shield must belong to everyone." Its "Shield of Open Source" is seen as a major development both as a Chinese response to Mythos and as the first time a leading lab has been so forward-leaning publicly on AI safety.
