Doubao's cloud computer and phone-controls-PC mode beats Codex in hands-on test
op7418 · x · 2026-08-19
A hands-on test of Doubao's new cloud computer mode and phone-controls-local-PC feature. The connection design feels more natural than Codex: start a chat on the local PC, sync to the phone, tap once to authorize, and the phone gets control with very low latency.
The cloud computer is essentially a VM, but its built-in connectors (MCP) can pull context from Notion, GitHub, Feishu, WeCom and more, and it supports installing Skills. The author demoed a full workflow: read Feishu meeting notes and extract todos on the cloud computer → install a self-built social-media-card Skill via a phone command → run tasks based on the todos, with smooth cross-device control.
Another trick: use phone-controls-PC as a 'file transfer assistant' — open a dedicated chat with a prompt like 'just receive files and images, no extra responses', and it obeys.
