Anthropic: Claude designs de novo protein binders for 14/15 targets, up to 35% success
FinanceYF5 · x · 2026-08-19
Anthropic tested whether Claude can design novel protein binders from scratch (de novo design). Guided by a protein-design prompt written by a human expert, Claude autonomously produced binders for 14 out of 15 targets.
Anthropic then partnered with Adaptyv Bio and Twist Bioscience to independently build and test the designs: 22%–35% of Claude's proteins successfully bound their targets depending on setup, versus a typical 10%–15% success rate in the field. Some of the strongest designs bound several times more strongly than the best published de novo binders.
