NVIDIA monopoly hard to break? Paradigm shifts are key

Steven Glinert argues that NVIDIA holds an extreme monopoly in data center compute (>90% market share). With the moat built by NVLink and CUDA, it is challenging for competitors like AMD to displace them with marginal performance improvements.
Historically, displacing such monopolies requires a paradigm shift in compute rather than direct competition. The solution may lie in new digital paradigms or more daring analog solutions. Capitalism eventually finds a way, but it demands a technological revolution.
