Berkeley math prof's anti-AI op-ed urging SAT return flagged as 33% AI-generated

UC Berkeley math professor Zvezdelina Stankova published a 2,000-word op-ed in the SF Standard urging the UC system to reinstate SAT/ACT requirements, acknowledging that AI use has hurt education. But AI detector Pangram flagged the piece as 33% AI-generated or AI-assisted. A June open letter from STEM faculty advocating standardized testing — signed by thousands of academics including five Nobel laureates and partially written by Stankova — showed similar results. The irony: a critic of AI's impact on education apparently used AI to write it.
