Shumer: predicting the future is gut feel plus high-level data — and can't be taught
mattshumer_ · x · 2026-08-19
Matt Shumer said he has no real process for figuring out what the future looks like — it's the one thing he's always been able to do well but has never managed to teach anyone, mostly gut feeling combined with high-level data.
A mistake he sees: people go too deep into the weeds and find a million things that will break, missing the big picture. He closed with a joke: if anyone wants to convince him to start a big fund, happy to chat — "but I don't like your odds."
