Everyone dooms about Alphabet, yet the stock is fine — a case it's pivoting to infra

Derek Thompson of The Atlantic notes an interesting vibe on X: nearly everyone is doom-posting about Alphabet — talent exodus, falling behind OpenAI and Anthropic on frontier AI, bureaucratic slowness — and most of these commentators know more about AI than he does.
But the market knows more than most, and the stock is... fine. Gun to his head, he could argue Alphabet is pivoting toward infrastructure just as model prices decline with the rise of open-weight models — potentially shifting profit from labs to chip/cloud providers while usage keeps climbing.
