Perplexity officially announced that its API MCP server now conforms to the Agent Plugins 1.0.0 spec, letting it be installed directly as an agent plugin in Codex, Cursor, VS Code, and other compatible clients.
Once connected, agents gain real-time web search, reasoning, and research capabilities via Perplexity's API. The project is open source on GitHub (2.5k stars) and also offers a Perplexity-hosted remote MCP server that Cursor and VS Code users can connect to with one click, no local install required.
