OpenAI Pauses Frontier Model Training to Strengthen Safety

OpenAI announced a temporary pause on reinforcement learning (RL) training for its latest models intended for deployment, citing the need to harden research environments and expand monitoring. The largest planned frontier RL run remains on hold. The company stated that confidence in safety will increasingly set the pace of AI development as internal risks grow with model capability.
