Google DeepMind, in collaboration with academic partners and the Gemini-powered AlphaEvolve agent, has achieved a breakthrough in matrix multiplication. They pushed the best known bound for the computational operation to ω < 2.371177. Matrix multiplication is a fundamental operation powering modern computing, including AI.
