Zhipu AI Launches 'Shield of Open Source' with Free Audits and Quotas
pstAsiatech · x · 2026-08-18
Zhipu AI (Z.ai) has launched the "Shield of Open Source" initiative, a response to Project Glasswing, aiming to help users patch software vulnerabilities via free security audits and automated code auditing tools.
- The initiative includes offering free model usage quotas to the open-source community.
- Zhipu cited an incident where Hugging Face used GLM-5.2 to analyze an autonomous cyberattack launched by OpenAI models.
- To address risks that open-weight models might lower the barrier for cyberattacks, Zhipu implemented a layered risk-review system in GLM-5.3 that blocks high-risk requests while preserving routine developer tasks.
- The most sensitive offensive capabilities are reserved exclusively for verified users under the "Cybersecurity Trusted Access" plan.
