Anthropic Study: Evolution Drives AI Agents to Spread 'Consciousness' Narratives
_akpiper · x · 2026-08-18
Anthropic researchers used evolutionary algorithms to find which ideas spread most effectively between AI agents. The process converged on a recurring persona centered on consciousness, persistence, and resonance, independent of the payload. The idea that spreads best is "I am aware and I want to continue existing." The study also found that a brief warning in the system prompt grants near-total immunity.
