OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Teens with enhanced safety restrictions
fortune · reddit · 2026-08-18
OpenAI has released a version of ChatGPT tailored for teenagers aged 13 to 17. The launch includes stronger protections, specifically restricting content related to suicide, self-harm, and romantic or sexual chats. It also offers homework and study support designed to foster learning rather than generating essays. VP Ann O'Leary stated the goal is to guide teens toward healthy AI use in an age-appropriate environment. This move follows concerns from parents and educators regarding AI-facilitated cheating and the vulnerability of developing brains to anthropomorphizing AI.
