Meta proposes RPM model to prioritize AI experiments, cuts compute
aigclink · x · 2026-08-18
Meta introduced RPM (Research Proposal Model), a new method to address the high cost of validating AI-generated research proposals.
Core Problem: AI can generate 100 experiment proposals in a minute, but validating each takes hours or days of GPU compute, making it hard to decide which to run first.
Solution:
- Uses a frozen LLM as a "referee" or "proposal advisor".
- RPM does not run experiments but helps prioritize which proposals are worth testing.
Results:
- An AI research agent equipped with RPM achieved the same results in 15 hours with <2/3 of the compute budget that previously took 24 hours (approx. 37.5% efficiency gain).
