'Grep hygiene': coding agents need clean, searchable codebases
mattpocockuk · x · 2026-08-18
TypeScript educator Matt Pocock argues for a new concept of "grep hygiene": when your coding agent searches for a concept, it should receive relevant results — not a huge sludge of specs, plans, and old research docs. He notes many codebases have the grep hygiene of a compulsive hoarder, directly degrading agent retrieval quality.
