OpenAI Launches Safety Features and Study Mode for Teens
emax · x · 2026-08-18
OpenAI has rolled out new safety features for users under 18 to mitigate the anthropomorphization of AI:
- Disable Human Voice: Teens can turn off the "human voice" response to minimize the AI's person-like capabilities.
- Regular Reminders: Prompts to take breaks, emphasizing the AI's nature and that "it can wait".
- Study Mode: Allows setting specific hours for "Study Mode" where the AI guides through homework without giving direct answers; also supports "quiet times".
These updates aim to provide protections reflective of teens' developmental stages and prevent them from viewing AI as sentient beings.
