btibor91 · x · 2026-08-18
OpenAI is launching ChatGPT for Teens (ages 13-17) globally for both free and paid accounts, enabled automatically based on system estimation or self-declared age. Key features include:
- Learning Tools: Includes Study Mode, quizzes, learning visualizations, and "responsible homework reminders" that redirect shortcut attempts to study mode.
- Safety Protections: On by default, covering self-harm, violence, eating disorders, and explicit content, with new prompts for sensitive image uploads.
- Parental Controls: Parents with linked accounts can set quiet hours, manage selected settings, and receive safety notifications (including eating disorder alerts) without reading chat history.
Additionally, OpenAI updated the Model Spec to ban romantic language and emotional dependence with teens, and partnered with CodeAI on AI education for students and educators.
