How Sonarr and Radarr killed the reason for streaming subscriptions

In 2013, developer Mark McDowall created Sonarr (later followed by Radarr for movies) to automate the hunting and downloading of TV shows. This open-source stack, often paired with Jellyfin or Plex, maintains a personal media library forever by automatically grabbing, renaming, and organizing content. Unlike streaming services that remove content and raise prices, this one-time setup offers a growing, ad-free library, effectively challenging the streaming model.
