Developer rolls back OpenAI's Agent Plugins standard: cross-client frontmatter breaks compatibility

kieranklaassen · x · 2026-08-18

OpenAI launched Agent Plugins, an open standard built with AWS, Cursor, GitHub and Vercel that packages Agent Skills and MCP configs for cross-client use. But developer trevin had to roll it back after trying to adopt it: per-harness enforcement of frontmatter keys is inconsistent — Claude Code supports disable-model-invocation and argument-hint, Codex tolerates them, but Oh My Pi errors out. Combined with Claude Code not participating in the standard, you can't author once and run everywhere; he calls the standard a mess.
