henkvaness · x · 2026-08-18
Amazon is reportedly purchasing rare books, cutting off their spines to scan them for AI training, and then destroying the physical copies, according to 404 Media. Tracking devices showed books arriving at an Amazon facility in Las Vegas. Amazon stated it purchases books commercially to improve products. Rare texts are valued as high-quality training data free from AI-generated content to prevent model collapse.
