One night of vibe coding: open-source Reachy robot runs 100% local with Qwen brain
Scobleizer · x · 2026-08-18
A maker turned the Reachy Mini robot into a fully local desk companion with zero cloud:
- 🧠 Brain: Qwen3-27B on a DGX Spark; 👁 vision: Qwen2.5-VL on a Mac Studio; 👂 Whisper ears, 🗣 Kokoro voice, plus a web dashboard
- 👀 Face recognition on every frame — greets people by name, tracks the speaker with predictive head motion
- 🗣 Per-person TTS voices and personality flavors, switchable by voice command
- 🤝 Real tasks ("search my notes") delegated to a Hermes agent via a [hermes] tag, then spoken back
- 🙋 Strangers get asked their name and enrolled automatically
Open-sourced with example configs, autostart and supervisor scripts.
