OpenAI officially announced an agreement to use capacity at the PORTS-Pike Technology Data Center in Pike County, Ohio, working with SB Energy, NVIDIA, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Key commitments:
- SB Energy will pay the full cost of grid upgrades and new transmission lines, so costs aren't shifted to Ohio ratepayers;
- The site will use closed-loop, air-cooled cooling systems that recirculate water instead of cooling towers.
OpenAI frames the project as a catalyst for jobs and investment in Southern Ohio.
